This spirited ride doesn't end well for this fella. (TWB)

While he survived (thankfully, but unbelievably), he had to be pretty banged up... Let this serve as yet another example of how NOT to ride on public roads (or anywhere for that matter).

I HATE to see this stuff. This guy was fuh-lyin' through these twisties [[well over 150 mph (kph ?) in spots]] and ran up to this curve carrying way too much speed and flew down an embankment to a creek bed.

Guys, I love to ride. RIDE. That implies that I want to continue to ride for a long time. If you claim that you love to ride, please engage your self preservation mode before venturing out next time. /PSA

Look at the recovery of his bike... (@ 1:20, you can see the frame is more than taco'd)

given the discussion on the FP yesterday, I wont go into much detail but...I have to admit...i don't have a lot of sympathy for him given the speed and public road nature.

He was going at 100+. Absolutely no sympathies to anyone who speeds like that on a public road like that. You can be valentino rossi himself and claim that speed limits are stupid and that not every driver is the same and some can control it better than others. As long as others on the road expect everyone to stick to the speed limit, your control is irrelevant.

Awww the unmistakeable whines and moans of one who has had the wind knocked out of him. And maybe some poo and stuff as well.

He crashed his bike being stupid. He's lucky Darwin let him off as easy as he did.

What was up with the "25mph sign - very misleading to motorcycles." annotation?

Not sure if that was directed at me or not.

Let me rephrase. "Why would a max safe speed 25mph be any more misleading to a motorcycle than any other vehicle?" It's all relative, and to me, sounds like an excuse.

Heh... sorry for the corn-fusion, Fry's contemplation was directed at the rider... Not you... ;-)

My rudimentary understanding of motorcycles comes from riding a bicycle. . . But I think those yellow 25MPH signs are more crucial for a bike to follow if you only have the confines of one lane to stay in. I'm pretty sure motorcycles need a wide and broad line around a turn to take it fast but going into that section of road where he crashed as fast as he did was just plain stupid.

Guy claims he's up and moving around seconds after the crash but sure sounds like he's rolling around on the ground hurting..

Nah, man... We're cool... We're cool...

I don't condone this squid's behavior, nor was I fishing for sympathy for him... He was riding recklessly and paid a price. Hopefully this expensive (and probably physically painful) has taught him a lesson. Hopefully.

I tried to join Sunday riders for spirited (but not reckless) rides when I lived in Michigan. I approached it as an opportunity for me to 1) get out and ride and 2) preach basic defensive riding skills and the value of MSF classes to the riding community (I was an MSF ridercoach at the time). As you might expect, the squids thought I was just being a pussy because I didn't was to ride 3x the speed limit, or join in on the rolling stunt show that their rides usually became. I stopped looking for a group of level-headed, 'ride for the love of riding' kinds of like-minded people to ride with... I'm apparently way in the conservative tail of the normal distribution of riders - there aren't many of us. I did bump into a small number of these squids as they took MSF courses under my tutelage. You'd be scared at their basic motorcycle control skills - or rather, the lack there of.

High five.

Been riding for 20+ years, and do 5K miles a year currently, and have been thinking about taking an MSF for fun. There's always something else you can learn.

And the bad habits? "OMG, STOP DRAGGING YOUR SNEAKERS!!!" I scream from my helmet.

If I just low-sided into a ditch, flew across the road, and down a 20 ft creek bed grade while my motorcycle rapidly disassembled itself above me, I wouldn't be going anywhere in a hurry...

Fist Bump. Hand explosion.

I've been riding 30 years. (whoa, I'm old.)

You should definitely take an intermediate and/or advanced rider MSF course. There is some necessary rudimentary material in there, but you'd be surprised at the number of 'bad habits' you have developed over the years or good techniques you can pick up.

I am traveling to Denver in a few weeks and plan to rent a motorcycle to ride up (and down) Pike's Peak... Should be fun.

Holy fuck those videos are annoying.

The first one because the "rider" is a shitdick, and deserved to crash for not keeping it on the track, luckily for him there wasn't an SUV full of autistic children in his way to the ditch.

And the second one, for that dumb bitch screaming to the guys "GOOD JOB WHOOOO!!!"

Shut UP, lady. I don't stand there and scream at you when you're making me a sandwich.

Why would you not scope a road in advance of bombing it? Over 100mph on an unfamiliar road? He got what was coming.

Not to be pedantic but all vehicle benefit from a wide broad line. Motos need to be more aware regarding surface bumps or debris on the road but ultimately those safe speed signs apply across vehicle types.
